Accomplishments for 2005/2006:
-
Summer Camp: We raised $24,000 to send over 100 at-risk children, ages 5 to 12, to a full week of interactive camp summer camp at AdventurePlex in Manhattan Beach. This program offers each at-risk child an opportunity to stay off the streets and experience educational and inspirational programs in a safe environment while interacting with new friends, learning new educational facts, increasing self confidence and building trust with all the camp instructors and adults involved.
-
Annual Day At The Beach Outreach Program: We connected 170 at-risk youths from local shelters, foster agencies and children’s programs with over 100 loving local volunteers for a warm day of healthy fun, sports and tons of one-one one interaction and TLC. This past August, 2005, was our best beach day yet. The Manhattan Beach shore was filled with happy kids and laughing adults. With the support of local vendors Like Manhattan Beach Creamery, Roundtable Pizza, Toys R Us and Mattel, we were able to feed, cloth and give toys to all 125 children.
Our next Day At The Beach is scheduled for August 17 or 16, 2006.
-
Home Team Realtors: We raised over $8,000 in 2005 with with our Home Team Realtors Outreach Program. A team of philanthropic realtors, P.S. I Love You Real Estate Agents, donate $300-$1000 at close of escrow with every real estate transaction to P.S. I Love You Foundation’s education programs. These funds are being used to hire instructors to teach our after school inspiration programs in Title 1 at-risk school districts to K through 5th graders. The schools currently in session are Birney Elementary and Madison Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary in Compton, Jefferson Elementary in Lennox.
-
YOGA123 Outreach: We created, developed and implemented a YOGA123 Outreach School Program that teaches at-risk youths about positive self image, healthy lifestyles and how to identify emotions. We currently are implementing this program in 4 at-risk Title 1 Schools and reach over 450 through his program. This program meets the California curriculum requirements for a state-aligned Physical Education class and can therefore be substituted in the classroom or after school. We currently have two hired instructors teaching this program.
-
NEW PROGRAM IMPLEMENTED: KidsFocus Sports: Our goal in 2005 was to create and implement an after-school outreach program with Beach Cities Health District that focuses on educating at-risk children on life-skills, positive attitude and character development through the sport of volleyball. The goal was accomplished and we finished our pilot in 2005 and are currently running the after-school program in Washing ton elementary and Birney Elementary Title 1 Schools. This is a 6-8 week program where children learn leadership, self-confidence, team building techniques and that their positive attitudes can help change their lives. The children honored by the Association of Volleyball Professionals on stage at the Manhattan Beach Open.
Goals for 2006 - 2007:
-
Fundraising Focus: We are currently working to develop our fundraising efforts in 2006/2007. Our goal is to raise over $250,000in 2007 to fund another outreach program, hire a full-time Executive Director and reach more children on a daily basis.
-
The World & Me: Our 2007 goal is to create and start a pilot for our next educational program called The World & Me. The World & Me Outreach Program is currently in development. This 12 week program is a unique world awareness, social studies and geography program that influences and world awareness, culture, currency, map familiarity, current affairs, race verses religion and build tolerance and positive interactive skills. World & Me is dedicated to improving the positive health and wellness in the lives of at-risk children ages 5-12 years with programs “during school” and/or “after-school” Title 1 in collaboration with Southern California Schools and shelters where at least 51% of the children at living in or near poverty level with one or no family/parent unit.
