Community and Volunteer Enrichment Programs
Day at the BeachProgram objective: Over 200 volunteers “Adopt a Child” for a day at the beach ... and over 200 children from area shelters get a day of fun, play, and sun in Manhattan Beach. Every year we create a village – complete with food, toy, and game tents - for the day with over 500 people! Day At The Beach is a wonderful hands-on day of social interaction with needy children.
Program specifics: We hold Day at the Beach every August on a Saturday from 9am-3pm on the sand in Manhattan Beach near 7th Street. Our “Day at the Beach” is a true community-care and volunteer enrichment program uniting over 200 local volunteers with 200 at-risk children from local shelters and schools for an interactive, healthy day of one-on-one personal attention and care.
Our volunteers create a memorable experience filled with "Love, Smiles and TLC" for each to remember for months to come. Every paired child and volunteer bonds and has a beautiful day of talking, giving and sharing. CONFIDENCE and TRUST in others is being built and together, we all create a safe and positive experience for each child.
P.S. I Love You Foundation provides all the food, toys, backpacks, boogie boards and games with help from local sponsors such as Mattel, Sit & Sleep, Kole Imports, Bravo Sports, Round Table Pizza, MB Creamery and Disney.
Reach Out to Families, Holiday Gift-Giving ProgramProgram objective: Volunteers create and deliver gift baskets for Christmas and deliver them directly to at-risk children and their families in our surrounding communities. This creates an easy and heartfelt way for our extraordinarily generous community to bring holiday cheer and thoughtful gifts to the lives of families in need.
Program specifics: The community is invited to drop off UNWRAPPED new toys, books, gift cards, clothing and family gift baskets at the PS I Love You Holiday Truck. This Community Gift -Giving Program, in collaboration with Shorewood Realtors and The Downtown Manhattan Beach Business Association, collects gift donations during the Manhattan Holiday Open and distributes them to local at-risk families in Watts, Compton, Hawthorne and Redondo Beach.
Love 4 Lunch Program objective: This program, currently in development, is a volunteer mentorship outreach program where adults and high school students meet with at-risk children at lunch-time on-site at Title 1 Schools. The goal is to positively inspire and empower these children with a supportive mentor and friend.
Summer Camp Outreach ProgramProgram objective: This program is currently on hold due to loss of funding. Volunteers help raise funds to provide over 120 camp scholarships to at-risk children for the opportunity to attend a full week of an interactive and educational summer camp at the Beach Cities Health District’s AdventurePlex in Manhattan Beach, CA. This week long educational and social development camp allows at-risk children to stay off the streets for a week in the summer and enjoy a week filled with education, love, hope and inspiration.
