8th Annual “Day At The Beach”… Adopt a child for one Day                                 August 23, 2008

WHEN:       Saturday, August 23rd, 2008
TIME:         Volunteer prompt attendance at 9:00am - 3:00pm
WHERE:     Between 6th and 8th Street on the Strand/sand in Manhattan Beach

Join us for this extraordinary community experience where 200 at-risk children are united with 200 volunteers to get "adopted" and given attention for the day. We want to include you as a participating volunteer!  Adopt a Child for the Day!

Information for Volunteers:
  • Your Responsibilities: ADOPT a child in need for one day and share your love, time and energy!!! That is it!  You will be assigned and responsible for one at-risk child for the day from 9AM-3PM.  The children are so excited and appreciative to be at the beach with an interactive mentor. Organized activities & lunch will be scheduled.  It is your responsibility to get your child to these activities and keep them safe. 
  • Parking: Parking during the summer at the beach is always a challenge, so please allow time to look for parking.  Bring plenty of quarters for metered parking to avoid getting a ticket. (You can park at Mira Costa and car pool to the beach)
  • Participants:  Over 200 at-risk children from local shelters and over 200 adult volunteers.
  • Food & Beverages:  Pizza, water, soda, snacks, and ice cream will be available for everyone.
  • T-Shirts:  T-Shirts will be given to all children and volunteers. T-shirts MUST STAY ON you and the children at all times (even while in the water) for identification purposes.
  • Wrist Bands:  Each child will wear a colored wrist band signifying their shelter or organization.  Children in hiding will wear an additional black wrist band.  NO PICTURES ARE TO BE TAKEN OF CHILDREN WEARING BLACK WRIST BANDS.
  • Two Things to Bring:    (1)  Please bring a Beach Towel as a GIFT for your child and (2) BRING A LARGE BLANKET for  you and your child’s home base to relax.  Other things to bring are sand toys, sunblock  & energy for the water ! We will give you a boogie board and a backpack for you to GIVE to your child.
