1. The Waiver
I am volunteering to participate in the “Day at the Beach” Adopt A Child For The Day event sponsored by the P.S. I Love You Foundation. By my signature below, I attest to all of the following:
I will bring my valid driver's license to check in, if I do not have it, I understand that I cannot volunteer for the day.
I have not been convicted of any crime at any time relating to child molestation, pornography, or other crimes that may hinder my ability to properly volunteer my services in this capacity.
I will completely indemnify P.S. I Love You Foundation for any injury I may incur due to an accident or problematic incident during my participation in the event.
I volunteer for this responsibility upon my own free will.
I understand that I am responsible for the safety and care of the child/children assigned to me and I will watch out for them with the best care I can provide.
I understand that the child may not know how to swim and I will not leave their side in or out of the water.
2. The Volunteer Responsibilities: Responsibilities and event guidelines to abide by. This is to ensure the safety of our Day At The Beach children:
Once you are assigned to a child, you are responsible for that child during the entire event. It is vital that you maintain very close contact with your child and DO NOT let your child go into the water without you. MOST of the children CANNOT swim.
Make sure that you and your child both wear our red T-Shirts at all times for identification purposes, in and out of the water.
Make sure you and your child have matching wristband colors. These identify which shelter they are with.
If your child is wearing a black wrist band, DO NOT let your child be photographed. This means your child is in hiding. Keep them away from pictures, it could endanger them and their family.
Stay within a block of our base camp. We will set up near a restroom so there should not be a need to wander far from the group.
Bring a gift of a towel for your child. Bring a large blanket for your base camp.
Other than scheduled lunch and relay races, the rest of the day, the chidlren just want to play. Play close to our tents.
Focus all of your attention on ensuring your child has a wonderful and safe day!
3. WHAT TO DO SATURDAY MORNING:
PLEASE BE PROMPT at 9:00am, go to registration tables. Get assigned to a shelter (each has an assigned color); get your wristband, nametag & t-shirt.
Go get 4 gifts for your child: a lei, a backpack, a water gun and a kite.
Go to the Orientation Tent, to the right. Talk to Leslie, Billie or Patricia. Get the scoop on the day, ask questions.
Sign Up your child for Surf Lessons and Beauty Camp. Sign up is near the Orientation Tent
Go set up your Base Camp with your blanket, this is where you and your child relax, place all the toys, eat and talk.
Need Coffee?? Near orientation tent; enjoy Starbuck’s coffee.
At 9:45am: Go Back to the registration tables at the shelter/color you were assigned to and Get Paired up with a child: (Child Assignment is Random; We hope there is a connection between you and your child but some children’s hearts are hard to reach. So, please do not feel you are doing something wrong. Be patient. If a shelter does not show up, we are very sorry if you do not get a child.)
After you get your child take him/her to the Boogie Board Tent and get a boogie board, each child gets to take this home.
Go Sit Down with your child and establish the rules. Ask if your child can SWIM. Tell them you are happy to share the day with them. Build their confidence please! Give them reasons to feel good about themselves. Thank you.
