This is our 9th Annual Day AT The Beach, Adopt a Child for One Day.
Program specifics: We hold Day at the Beach, “adopt a child for one day” program every August on a Saturday from 9am-3pm on the sand in Manhattan Beach near 7th Street. Our Day at the Beach is a true community-care and volunteer enrichment program uniting over 225 local volunteers with 225 at-risk children from local shelters, The Department of Child and Family Services and local Title 1 schools. Our volunteers create a memorable experience filled with "Love, Smiles and TLC" for each to remember for months to come.
Since every child is paired with one volunteer there is enough time to bond through one-on-one personal attention and care. CONFIDENCE and TRUST in others is built and/or learned throughout the hours together. This day becomes significant to the children because there are FUN-HAPPY hours of hopeful experiences created from our volunteer’s healthy interaction and shared laughter.
The trust and respect shaped during Day At The Beach makes this a powerful program demonstrating positive social interaction with child and adult regardless of race or religion. These are skills that most at-risk children need to experience for more optimistic perspectives about others and about life.
